Jude Law Reportedly Set To Return For Captain Marvel 2

Though Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce any movies beyond next month’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, the billion-dollar box office success of Captain Marvel has ensured a future for Brie Larson in the franchise. And while Carol Danvers’ next solo outing is seemingly still a few years away from hitting theaters, early intel suggests that the sequel will see the return of the heroine’s former mentor.

According to a source close to We Got This Covered, Jude Law will reprise his role as Yon-Rogg in Captain Marvel 2. What’s more, it’s said that the Starforce commander will start off the film as a villain, but will ultimately end up helping Carol in some way.

As it stands, Carol’s second standalone flick looks to be a long way off from going into production, meaning that Marvel still has plenty of time to change their plans. That being said, Law’s final scene in Captain Marvel – which saw a bested Yon-Rogg flying back to Hala – certainly suggested that we hadn’t seen the last of the Kree warrior, and it could be interesting to see how he bounces back from his humiliating defeat.

So far, there’s very little we can say for sure about Captain Marvel 2, though producer Kevin Feige has previously hinted that the film may take place before the events of the recent Avengers: Endgame, picking up where the first movie left off. As for a release date, the most recent rumor is that the sequel is headed for theaters in May 2022.

Here’s hoping that Marvel can offer some clarification during next month’s San Diego Comic-Con, but in the meantime, the MCU’s Phase 3 comes to a close with the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 2nd.
