X-Men: Sophie Turner Didn’t Know About Fox’s ‘Dark Phoenix’ Plans

Dark Phoenix X-Men Jean Grey Sophie Turner FoxIt seems that sometimes actors don’t know what they sign on for as Sophie Turner was unaware of Fox’s Dark Phoenix plans when she originally joined the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse.

During a recent interview with Screen Rant, Sophie Turner talked a bit about Fox’s plans regarding Dark Phoenix. According to the actress, she was completely unaware that they were going to do Dark Phoneix when she signed on for X-Men Apocalypse. After X-Men: The Last Stand she had assumed that they were done with that particular story arc and wouldn’t be trying it again. She did, however, say that, when she found out, she was excited to do it again:

No, not at all. I never knew. You know, they had The Last Stand and so I just kind of assumed that it was done and over with. But I was really excited when they told me because in The Last Stand, the Dark Phoenix storyline was a subplot and in this it’s the main plot and it being one of the most loved comic books in the X-Men world, it definitely felt right to do it again. I was so excited.

From the look of things, Sophie Turner was eager to help adapt one of the most iconic X-Men storylines!

What do you all make of these comments? Do you find it odd that Sophie Turner was unaware that Fox would take another shot at the Dark Phonix Saga? What do you think of the upcoming X-Men film? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. Here’s the official synopsis:

In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

Dark Phoenix is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the X-Men.

Veteran X-Men producer Simon Kinberg makes his directorial debut with Dark Phoenix in addition to producing the film with Hutch Parker, Lauren Schuler Donner and Todd Hallowell. Dark Phoenix is expected to be Fox's final X-Men film featuring the core X-Men cast in the cinematic universe launched by director Bryan Singer in 2000 with the Disney-Fox merger now complete.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. Here's the film's synopsis:

“This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX.  During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all.  Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet.  The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.”
