Andy Serkis Reportedly Up For A Role In The Batman

If recent reports have it right, then Matt Reeves’ The Batman is gearing up to head into production by the end of 2019, giving the studio only a few more months to locate Robert Pattinson’s co-stars. So far, the Twilight actor is the only one who’s been confirmed for the project, but in recent weeks, we’ve seen an overwhelming array of rumors and suggestions regarding who else could or should join him in the hugely anticipated film.

In particular, it’s believed that The Batman will make way for at least six major villains, including such beloved characters as Catwoman and the Riddler. Though it’s still unclear who exactly will be in this Rogues Gallery, one key antagonist that we know for a fact features in the script is Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin, who was last seen in live-action cinema in 1992’s Batman Returns. And while it doesn’t seem like the character has been cast, an interesting development has occurred tonight.

You see, the folks over at Batman On Film say that their sources are telling them Andy Serkis is up for a role in the pic, and while they don’t know who he might play, Serkis has long been a popular choice amongst fans for the Penguin and really, is perfectly suited to the part. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen, but given Serkis and Reeves’ close working relationship, it’s not hard to believe that at the very least, he’s involved.

Be it as Oswald Cobblepot or someone else, we’ll have to see, but with The Batman looking to soar into theaters on June 25th, 2021, it hopefully won’t be too much longer before we get some concrete answers on who else will be joining Robert Pattinson in the movie.
