X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner took to Twitter to throw some shade at the past few movies including Dark Phoenix, X-Men: Apocalypse, and The New Mutants.
In a now-deleted tweet, Donner told fans to “save” their “condolences. She stated that she had “zero, nothing to do with Dark Phoenix, or Apocalypse, or New Mutants.” She is credited as a producer on all of those films but sounds just as disappointed as fans.
Fan backlash started with X-Men: Apocalypse, which garnered mixed reviews from both critics and fans. Now Dark Phoenix is playing in theaters and it debuted to the worst rating of the X-Men movies ever. Dark Phoenix is sitting at a 22% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer and 65% for its audience score it also had the worst box office opening in the franchise.
The New Mutants was going to take the X-Men franchise into a darker direction. After Disney acquired Fox’s assets, The New Mutants was pushed back yet again. Originally, The New Mutants was supposed to debut on April 13, 2018. It was then pushed back to February 22, 2019, before being postponed again to August 2, 2019. Now, The New Mutants has been delayed a third time and won’t be released until April 2020.

Here is the synopsis for Dark Phoenix:
This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.
Written and directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.
Dark Phoenix will be released in theaters on June 7, 2019.
