Throughout the years, Batman has given several young folks the opportunity to take up the mantle of Robin in the comics. Whether it be Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Carrie Kelley, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown or Damian Wayne, they all have supporters and a rabid fanbase that support them vehemently. If there’s one that folks have wanted to see up on the big screen perhaps more than any other, though, it’s Todd and more specifically, his persona of Red Hood.
For those unfamiliar with the character, Jason Todd was killed by the Joker back in A Death in the Family during the 1980’s, before being resurrected in the controversial, yet seminal, Under the Red Hood nearly two decades later (time passes differently in comic book land). Usurping the Red Hood alias from the Clown Prince of Crime’s days predating his (more) flamboyant stage, Todd has since become one of DC’s most popular anti-heroes.
Oddly enough, though, Jason hasn’t been invited to the party outside of literature very often. True, we’ve had animated appearances in recent adaptations like Under the Red Hood and also in Batman Ninja, but he’s still yet to show up in live-action on the big screen. If our intel’s correct, though, that may soon change.
Sources close to We Got This Covered have confirmed that Warner Bros. is very interested in exploring the Batman Family with future projects and plans to give most of them their own films at some point, including Red Hood. Apparently, it’ll be based on the Red Hood and the Outlaws comic book series and also feature Arsenal and Starfire. Beyond that, details remain scarce, but this is certainly exciting to learn about.
We should stress that Warner Bros. has a bad habit of putting projects into development only for them to stall and go nowhere, and at this early, early stage, the same could very well happen to the Red Hood movie, too. But for the moment, there are discussions underway to bring the character into the DCEU and give him his own film, and as soon as we learn more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
