Whoever it was at the House of Mouse that decided that live-action remakes of animated Disney classics was a good idea deserves a raise. Both The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast crushed it at the box office, meaning that the future holds many more in the same vein. And though Aladdin isn’t exactly a home run, Jon Favreau’s The Lion King is looking to be one of the summer’s biggest films.
But the fun doesn’t end there. Variety is reporting today that The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb is in talks with Disney to helm a live-action remake of Snow White. The Girl on the Train scribe Erin Cressida is on script duties and the aim is to “expand upon the story and music from the 1938 animated classic.”
Better yet, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the team behind La La Land, The Greatest Showman, and Dear Evan Hansen, will write new songs for the movie, while Marc Platt is acting as producer. Unfortunately, there’s no casting to disclose just yet, but now that the core creative crew is set, that should change soon.
Of course, it remains to be seen if this latest telling of the classic tale will flop like Dumbo or soar like The Jungle Book, but it’s certainly got some considerable talent on board already and if they can nail the casting, there’s a good chance Snow White could end up as another billion dollar hit for the studio.
Again, no word on who they may be eyeing just yet, but feel free to head on down to the comments section and let us know who you’d like to see play the titular role, along with the Seven Dwarfs.
