Marvel’s Avengers Video Game To Feature Co-Op And Customizable Heroes

If you’ve been around long enough, then you probably remember how licensed video games haven’t always had the greatest track record – especially when it comes to the superhero genre. Fortunately, there have been exceptions to the rule, as the likes of X-Men Legends, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Batman: Arkham Asylum really helped turn the tide.

Now, with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes tearing up the box office, one would think gamers would like to step into their shoes for a new interactive experience. Thankfully, the long-gestating Marvel’s Avengers from Square Enix will soon see the light of day, as this updated E3 Coliseum description has surfaced online and lets us know what to expect:

“Embrace your powers and join key members of the development team at Crystal Dynamics and the creative team at Marvel Games as they talk exclusively about the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers. This is the defining Avengers gaming experience: an epic action-adventure that combines cinematic storytelling with continuous single-player and co-operative gameplay. Moderated by Andrea Rene, assemble in teams up to four players, master extraordinary abilities, customize your heroes to fit your playstyle, and combine powers to defend an ever-expanding world under constant threat.”

Even though it remains unspecified as to which consoles will support this bad boy, one can only hope that it’ll be multi-platform. With Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order being slated as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, I’m sure a lot of True Believers are feeling left out in that instance.

Already, this upcoming game is drawing comparisons to popular titles such as The Division and Destiny, which could prove to be exciting territory for the characters involved. These days, it’s all about multiplayer, and this product seems to have that in spades.

For more on Marvel’s Avengers, know that Square Enix’s press conference is penciled in for June 10th at 6:00pm PT at E3. That said, we should learn much more when the time arrives.
