The Pokémon Company has announced a huge pile of new projects, confirming that three new games and a digital storage system are on the way. These major reveals were made at a press conference that took place in Tokyo overnight, and a press release from The Pokémon Company popped up in our inbox this morning. We're going to list the new things that have been announced, so it doesn't get too confusing...
Pokémon Sleep is a new mobile app/game from The Pokémon Company, which "aims to turn sleeping into entertainment by having a player's time spent sleeping and the time they wake up have an effect on the gameplay." Its launch in 2020 will bring with it a new device, the Pokémon GO Plus +, which the app will connect up with. More details about the app's functionality will be revealed at a later date.
Pokémon Masters is the mobile game that the developers at DeNA are working on. This upcoming game "enables players to experience a new type of Pokémon battling on the go and features many famous Pokémon Trainers from the long history of Pokémon video games." Gameplay "will be optimized for smart devices for a casual but uniquely Pokémon experience." We'll hear more info about this one in June.
The third new Pokémon experience that has been announced today is a new Detective Pikachu game which, following the success of the Detective Pikachu movie, will bring the sleuthing spinoff series onto the Nintendo Switch for the first time. This new game will follow on from the cliffhanger of the previous Detective Pikachu game, which launched on the 3DS, and promises to provide "a conclusion to that story." We don't have a release date yet.
The Pokémon Company also announced Pokémon HOME, a digital critter-storage service that will allow players to house and trade their Pokémon from numerous other games. The service will launch on Switch and mobile devices in 2020, and it will connect up the 3DS-era Pokémon Bank service with Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu, Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee, Pokémon Go, and the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Shield RPG games.
And finally, a couple of bits of globe-spanning housekeeping from The Pokémon Company: they also announced during the press conference that "an enhanced version" of Pokémon Quest will be launching in China, and that the made-to-order apparel service Pokémon Shirts will be launching in the US and Europe.
