It seems that despite an early halt end to his run on Batman, comic writer Tom King will be concluding the story he set out on in a Batman/Catwoman series for DC Comics.
Earileir this week, comic fans were shocked by the news that comic book writer Tom King would be ending his run on the DC Comics Batman series a fill 15 issues earlier than expected. Tom King had said on numerous occasions that he would be continuing writing the Batman series until the 100th issues. This sadly was cut short as Tom King will be leaving the book after the 85th issues. But it seems the storyline that Tom King started with Batman and Catwoman will see a conclusion in DC Comics.
The storyline will conclude with the upcoming Batman/Catwoman series for DC Comics. Tom King will write the scripts for the book and will be drawn by Clay Mann. The series itself is set to be released at the start of 2020 along with the main DC Comics Batman series’ new creative team. As of right now, DC Comics has not announced who this creative will be and how involved Catwoman will be within it. Plot details on the upcoming Batman and Catwoman series are currently unknown.
In a recent statement, Tom King explained his reasoning behind writing the upcoming Batman/Catwoman series and what a privilege it was to write the DC Comics Batman series for so long:
Batman and Catwoman is a chance to do what Morrison and Quietly did in Batman and Robin: launch an ambitious, accessible, beautiful, thrilling new series that concludes years of stories and defines what Batman is, can, and will be. This will be a comic about what the best Batman comics are always been about, how our greatest hero turns fear into bravery, pain into hope, trauma into love. It’s the story I always wanted to tell, and I’m telling it with the man I consider to be the greatest artist in comics, my brother Clay Mann. It’s tough to leave Batman. It’s a gift and a joy to be on that book. But I’m leaving it to work on the biggest, most ambitious projects of my career, comics I get to make with the best collaborators in comics. And that’s a gift and a joy too.
What do you all make of this news? Are you glad that Tom King is leaving the Batman title? Are you looking forward to his Batman/Catwoman series? What do you think of the current state of DC Comics? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
