This Is Only ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ Movie Redesign You’ll Hate Looking At More Than The Original

Sonic The Hedgehog Detective Pikachu Ben SchwartzA Sonic the Hedgehog fan artist took it upon themselves to completely redesign the film’s protagonist so badly, it makes the original almost look good.

Sonic the Hedgehog, which stars Jim Carrey and James Marsden, was originally set to hit theaters  this fall. But as you all may know, the Sonic movie received major backlash from fans who completely ripped Sonic’s design for his live-action debut. The famous blue Hedgehog looked absolutely nothing like his video game form, and this upset fans to the point that the film’s director, Jeff Fowler, revealed that the studio would delay its release to redesign the characte.

Ben Schwartz, the actor who lends his voice to the titular character, teased that Sonic would now resemble his classic video game look upon the film’s release. The original Sonic design that fans outright hated had strange features, including teeth, his face, and even his body.

Fan artists on the web have already shared many of examples of how an accurate take on Sonic could look on the big screen. Some said their design of Sonic took only minutes to complete. But unfortunately, some fan artists can’t fix the film’s horrible design. The fan art below may induce nightmares for Sonic fans. You might want to cover your eyes. This is your last chance!

Yikes. This is definitely the worst design for SEGA’s most popular character. Fans hoping the Sonic the Hedgehog movie will deliver the blue speedster to the big screen with the justice he deserves will not be happy about this one. Truth is, they might just prefer the official Paramount Pictures design over this atrocity.

So what do you think of this version of Sonic? Is it really worse than the original movie design? Let us know in the comments below!

The Sonic the Hedgehog film will follow Small-town sheriff Tom Wachowski and the titular character as they embark on a road trip to San Francisco in a race to recover the blue hedgehog’s rings before the villainous Dr. Robotnik. Westworld actor James Marsden stars in the film along with Ben Schwartz who provides the voice for the film’’s Sonic.

Here is the official synopsis for Sonic the Hedgehog:

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster video game franchise from Sega that centres on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination.

Directed by Jeff Fowler from a script written by Patrick Casey, Josh Miller, and Oren Uziel, Sonic the Hedgehog features the voice talent of Ben Schwartz as the titular character and stars James Marsden as sheriff Tom Wachowski, Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Neal McDonough as US Army Major Bennington, Tika Sumpter as Mrs. Wachowski, Lee Majdoub as Stone, and Frank C. Turner as Crazy Carl. Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, Debs Howard, and Elfina Luk also star in undisclosed roles.

Sonic the Hedgehog will be released in theaters on February 14, 2020.

Veteran X-Men producer Simon Kinberg makes his directorial debut with Dark Phoenix in addition to producing the film with Hutch Parker, Lauren Schuler Donner and Todd Hallowell. Dark Phoenix is expected to be Fox's final X-Men film featuring the core X-Men cast in the cinematic universe launched by director Bryan Singer in 2000 with the Disney-Fox merger now complete.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. Here's the film's synopsis:

“This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX.  During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all.  Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet.  The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.”

Dark Phoenix is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the X-Men.
