‘Detective Pikachu’ Artist Reveals Early Danny DeVito Designs

Detective Pikachu Ryan Reynolds Pokemon Danny DeVito

Detective Pikachu Ryan Reynolds PokemonDetective Pikachu has been playing in theaters and concept artist RJ Palmer revealed a Danny DeVito inspired Pikachu design for the first ever live-action Pokemon film.

The Detective Pikachu team conducted early tests with Danny DeVito voicing the character. Palmer’s work gives fans the closest glimpse at what Pikachu could’ve looked like with DeVito playing the character. This version of the character is burlier, with a double chin and a slightly wider build. His eyes also look a little less innocent than the Ryan Reynolds voiced character. This design looks suitable for Danny DeVito’s gruff, yet animated voice. After not playing Pikachu, fans are now petitioning for Danny DeVito to play Wolverine in the MCU.

The titular Detective Pikachu character is voiced by Ryan Reynolds but RJ Palmer revealed that he pushed for a Danny DeVito design for the character. According to Palmer, the Danny DeVito style concept took him about 7 months, with more to come soon. Here’s a look at a few pictures of the design:

While Danny DeVito didn’t voice the star Pokemon, Detective Pikachu opened to an impressive $5.7 million in Thursday night previews with positive reviews to follow. The film has been reportedly greenlit for a sequel, with the hopes for a Pokemon Cinematic Universe somewhere down the line if the success continues.

Could you imagine Danny DeVito voicing Pikachu? Would you like his version better than Ryan Reynolds? Or would you like him to appear in future Pokemon live action movies? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments! We will keep you up to date as more information comes.

Here is a plot synopsis for Pokemon Detective Pikachu:

The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

Pokemon Detective Pikachu is in theaters everywhere.

Veteran X-Men producer Simon Kinberg makes his directorial debut with Dark Phoenix in addition to producing the film with Hutch Parker, Lauren Schuler Donner and Todd Hallowell. Dark Phoenix is expected to be Fox's final X-Men film featuring the core X-Men cast in the cinematic universe launched by director Bryan Singer in 2000 with the Disney-Fox merger now complete.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. Here's the film's synopsis:

“This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX.  During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all.  Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet.  The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.”

Dark Phoenix is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the X-Men.
