Scarlett Johansson Returns In First Black Widow Set Pics

Marvel’s upcoming Black Widow movie wasn’t expected to start production until June. However, it looks like the Scarlett Johansson-led prequel film may have started shooting early.

Production trucks for the movie “Blue Bayou” have already been spotted on location in a small lakeside town near Sæbø in Norway, which will double in the film as Russia. We recently learned that “Blue Bayou” is the working title of the prequel, and the Norwegian shot scenes will mostly fill out Black Widow’s childhood.

More than just production trucks have been spotted, however, as area paparazzi have confirmed Scarlett Johansson herself is already on set. Since expensive top-billed actors rarely show up until they absolutely have to, Johansson’s presence pretty much guarantees that scenes have already begun filming.

Like most Marvel projects, details on the story are being kept tightly under wraps. Rumors have swirled that the film could be set anywhere from after the events of Captain America: Civil War to before World War I though. In the comics, certain characterizations of Black Widow have existed since the early 1900s, telling us she’s been biotechnologically enhanced for an unusually long and youthful lifespan. Could the “red” in Nat’s ledger actually be a century’s worth of villainy? Though it’s not likely, it’s still fun to speculate.

So far the biggest Black Widow announcement has been in the official casting of Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz and Hellboy star David Harbour, but just who they’re playing is still up for debate. Taskmaster is rumored to be the villain but even then, that’s to be taken with a grain of salt.

Considering Marvel hasn’t even officially announced the production of Black Widow, it may be a while before we find out more details on the film. So far, a release date hasn’t been announced, but it’s likely to take either the May 1st or November 6th 2020 slot on the studio’s schedule. Until we know for certain, though, be sure to check back with us as more details on the prequel are revealed. Here’s hoping we finally find out what happens in Budapest.
